PlayStation Emulator ePSXe Receives Its First Update in 10 Years

The legendary PlayStation 1 emulator, ePSXe, has surprised the retro gaming community by releasing version 2.0.18—its first major update in nearly a decade.

A standout addition in this release is native support for .CHD disk images. This format offers a more efficient alternative to standard .ISO files, providing lossless compression that significantly reduces file sizes without sacrificing data integrity.

Beyond storage optimizations, the update delivers refined audio processing and improved reverb effects. Performance has been tuned for better stability, alongside the implementation of DPI Awareness to ensure the interface scales correctly on high-resolution displays. The developers have also ironed out various configuration bugs and bolstered BIOS HLE (High-Level Emulation) compatibility.

Several classic titles now benefit from enhanced playability, including Ghost in the Shell, Dino Crisis 1 & 2, Wipeout, Metal Gear Solid: Special Missions, and Samurai Shodown III. The Windows version of the update is currently available for download via the official ePSXe website.
