PlayStation Active Users Reach Record 127 Million as Console Sales Fall
PlayStation’s monthly active audience across PS4 and PS5 reached a record 127 million accounts at the end of September 2026, up 7% from the same period a year earlier, Sony said.
Sony also confirmed that development of its next-generation console is on schedule.
The company presented the figures on November 5 as part of its financial report for the second quarter of the current fiscal year. According to GameBiz, the total time players spent playing games from April through September also rose 4% year over year. Sony said audience engagement continues to grow steadily compared with the first quarter.
Revenue at Sony’s Game & Network Services (G&NS) division, which oversees its gaming business, rose 9% year over year, while operating profit increased 83%. Sony singled out Marvel’s Wolverine as one of the factors that positively affected the financial results.

PS5 console sales are gradually declining, and Sony expects that trend to continue as the device moves through its life cycle. Rather than seeking further hardware sales growth, the company plans to focus on increasing engagement among its existing audience. Sony is currently working with a base of roughly 100 million PS5 consoles sold and 127 million active PlayStation accounts.
