8 New TV Shows to Watch on Netflix, HBO and Apple TV November 6–8
Several major genre TV releases are on the way this month, including the new season of The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, billed as a soft reboot, the final season of Yellowjackets, and Netflix’s new exorcist-teen horror comedy The Body.
In the meantime, Bass X Machina is available on Netflix, with Brian Tyree Henry and Tati Gabrielle voicing characters in a crime-filled Steampunk West. Owen Wilson’s Stick is back for a second season, while Kim Kardashian stars in All’s Fair alongside Sarah Paulson, Glenn Close, Niecy Nash-Betts, Teyana Taylor and Naomi Watts. Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw also return for the second season of the British spy thriller Black Doves, in which two old friends reunite for a dangerous, complicated mission.
For documentary and reality TV viewers, Netflix’s three-part true-crime series Taken: Natalee Holloway traces the disappearance of a teenage graduate who went missing while vacationing in Aruba with her class.
In Awkwafina: The Unlikely Cook, the actress explores her connection to the restaurant industry and visits culinary institutions across the country as she learns to cook. Roy Choi serves as her culinary guide, while guests include her comedian best friend Jimmy O’Yang and Hong Kong chef and food writer Martin Yan. Her grandmother has the final say on whether Awkwafina has learned to cook.
Bass X Machina

- Available on Netflix
- Genre: Animation
- Episode count: 6
- Cast: Brian Tyree Henry, Tati Gabrielle, Joy Ofodu
Bass X Machina follows fictional adventures of Bass Reeves, the first Black deputy U.S. Marshal. Set after the Civil War on a lawless American frontier equipped with Steampunk technology, the series finds Reeves fighting rising Confederate forces.
As Polygon’s review explains:
Created by LeSean Thomas and Studio Mir, who both worked on The Legend of Korra, Bass X Machina is a reimagining of the story of Bass Reeves (Brian Tyree Henry), an escaped slave who worked in Indian Territory as a deputy U.S. Marshal. Reeves’ real life was extraordinary, and is said to have inspired the character of the Lone Ranger, but Bass X Machina also gives him a cybernetic arm that shoots magic bullets. The criminals he fights get even bigger upgrades, and the stakes can at times escalate to truly ludicrous levels. Henry does an especially great job expressing exasperation as Bass faces plenty of absurd foes, like an outlaw in a rampaging bull mech that requires complex cooperation to take down.

He finds a chance at redemption and a sense of purpose when he meets a promising 17-year-old golfer played by Peter Dager.
