PlayStation 3 Emulator ARMSX3 Receives Seven Updates in One Week on Android

The creators of the mobile RPCS3 port continue to refine the emulator and expand its list of compatible titles.

The developers of ARMSX3, an experimental PlayStation 3 emulator for Android, released seven updates in a single week. During this period, the project reached version 0.7.2, introducing new features alongside compatibility improvements.

ARMSX3 now recognizes games contained in unpacked folders and allows users to install digital editions in PKG format together with RAP licenses. The update also adds support for trophies, save states, and ANGLE, which is a translation layer for graphics commands between different APIs.

The developers improved firmware installation on lower-end devices, fixed issues with the pause function, and added automatic deletion of shader caches when removing a game. Starting with version 0.7, the emulator uses the Oboe audio system by default. A series of changes also increased compatibility with mobile graphics accelerators.

The list of supported games has also grown. Armored Core: For Answer and 2006’s Sonic the Hedgehog have attained playable status. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows now reaches gameplay, while Sonic Unleashed and the God of War III demo have started booting.

This does not yet mean the games can be played comfortably from start to finish, but the progress is substantial given that the first version of ARMSX3 was released only a week ago.

The current version of ARMSX3 is available as a free download on GitHub.
