Playground Games Explains Why It Chose to Develop Fable
Playground Games chose to develop Fable after an Xbox proposal because the team wanted to prove it could handle a different genre, while the franchise itself was its top desire.
Studio co-founder and game director Ralph Fulton shared in an interview that pride played a role in the decision:
I think there was a little bit of pride in proving that we could handle a different genre.
At the same time, Playground drew on its experience from creating Forza Horizon.
It made sense not to stray too far from Horizon. This project definitely wasn’t going to have cars, but open worlds felt like an area where we had skills we could apply to other projects.
The main factor was the team’s own desire to work on Fable.
When Xbox mentioned Fable, all other possibilities faded into the background. We couldn’t think about anything else.
The developers were also fans of the original Fable games. The game will be released on February 23, 2027, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
