The 2026 MOBO Awards are preparing for a landmark evening, as the prestigious ceremony marks its 30th anniversary with a star-studded roster of honorees and performers.

On Wednesday (March 11), officials confirmed that creative visionary Pharrell Williams will be the recipient of this year’s MOBO Global Songwriter Award. Joining him in the spotlight is hip-hop pioneer Slick Rick, who will be bestowed with the MOBO Lifetime Achievement Award during the main event on March 26.

Set to take place at the state-of-the-art Co-op Live in Manchester, the festivities will be led by hosts Eve and Eddie Kadi. A highlight of the night will see Slick Rick reunite with Estelle for a special collaborative set that traces the legend’s influential journey through hip-hop. Additionally, Jamaican sensation Shenseea is scheduled to perform, marking her first appearance on a U.K. stage since her acclaimed 2024 tour.

The performance schedule is already packed with talent, featuring Olivia Dean, FLO, Tiwa Savage, Aitch, and Myles Smith. The night will also pay homage to the roots of the British scene with a grime medley curated by DJ Target, bringing together genre stalwarts like Wiley, Chip, Nolay, Scorcher, and D Double E.

Kanya King CBE, the visionary founder and CEO of the MOBO Group, reflected on the significance of the milestone: “MOBO has consistently prioritized the recognition of cultural architects alongside the emerging talent defining the future. Pharrell Williams’ innate songwriting ability has steered the course of global music for decades, while Slick Rick’s narrative mastery provided the blueprint for generations of hip-hop lyricists.”

King added, “Commemorating that legacy through a unique performance with Estelle is a profound moment for us. With Shenseea showcasing the current vitality of Caribbean music, this year’s ceremony perfectly encapsulates the mission the MOBO Group has championed for thirty years.”

Slick Rick, born Ricky Walters, expressed his appreciation for the recognition: “It is a distinct privilege to be honored by the MOBO Awards, an institution that has long championed the depth of Black music and culture. From my roots in Mitcham, South London, to New York and the global stage, my career has been defined by imagination and cultural authenticity. This recognition feels incredibly meaningful.”

Pharrell’s history with the MOBOs is long-standing. Though he was famously invited to host the 2004 ceremony, scheduling conflicts delayed his debut. By 2005, he was a major fixture at the awards, winning Best Video for the iconic Snoop Dogg collaboration “Drop It Like It’s Hot.”

Fans can secure their attendance via the official MOBO website. For those watching from home, the ceremony will stream on the Amazon Music Twitch channel, while BBC Radio 1Xtra will provide live coverage from Manchester. Extensive highlights and exclusive content will also be available across various BBC platforms.

Since its inception in November 1996, the MOBO Awards have stood as Europe’s premier celebration of Black music, hosting legends such as Rihanna, Sade, Lauryn Hill, and Destiny’s Child. Speaking on the enduring impact of the brand, King noted: “Thirty years represents more than a milestone; it is a testament to the power of Black culture to influence the world. When we began, there were no established pathways for this music in the U.K. To see us still leading the conversation three decades later is both emotional and affirming.”
