Chappell Roan Joins Noah Kahan for Surprise ‘California’ Performance at the Rose Bowl
Noah Kahan Surprises 56,000 Fans at the Rose Bowl With Chappell Roan Duet of “California”

In a mesmerizing highlight of his landmark Pasadena performance, Noah Kahan thrilled a packed Rose Bowl Stadium by bringing out pop trailblazer Chappell Roan for an unexpected, emotionally resonant duet.
Marking the grandest headlining milestone of his career, the sold-out spectacle gathered upwards of 56,000 attendees under the Southern California night sky as part of Kahan’s celebrated The Great Divide World Tour.
Throughout his expansive 27-song performance, the Vermont singer-songwriter took several moments to reflect on his rapid ascent, juxtaposing the historic arena with his earliest days in the city.
“I vividly recall headlining the Troubadour and thinking that if that was the pinnacle of my musical journey, I’d be completely fulfilled,” Kahan reflected, referencing West Hollywood’s renowned 500-capacity club. “Standing here tonight with all of you is something I will never take for granted.”
The transition to Roan’s appearance arrived with comedic theatricality when an onstage prop telephone began ringing. Picking up the handset, Kahan quipped: “God, is that you? You reckon that because this is my biggest show to date, the moment demands a truly phenomenal guest?”
Moments later, Roan emerged to thunderous applause. The duo delivered an intimate, stripped-back rendition of “California,” an evocative standout from her critically acclaimed 2023 debut LP, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. The poignant ballad resonated deeply with the venue, chronicling Roan’s artistic migration from rural Missouri to Los Angeles in pursuit of her musical calling.
“Noah has consistently championed me from the very start,” Roan shared with the audience following an affectionate onstage fist bump. “He is truly one of the kindest, most genuine souls in this industry.”
Introducing the selection, Kahan confessed his enduring admiration for Roan’s craft: “This was the exact track that introduced me to Kayleigh’s artistry and made me fall head over heels for her songwriting. I’m deeply honored and profoundly thankful she joined me tonight. Here is ‘California.’”
Beyond the celebrated cameo, Kahan delivered a tour-de-force setlist spotlighting signature anthems from his commercial breakthrough Stick Season—including “Northern Attitude,” “Dial Drunk,” and the eponymous title cut—alongside fresh material from The Great Divide, such as “Orbiter” and “American Cars.”
Kahan’s itinerary continues across major North American venues, featuring upcoming stadium stops including San Diego’s Petco Park and a finale at Seattle’s T-Mobile Park, prior to embarking on his global leg later this autumn.
