A vast number of PC games have been released, and critics have compiled a selection of the very best.
Recently, the team at PC Gamer published an updated “Top 100 PC Games” list, which includes both recent releases and a wide range of classics.
They apply the following method when assembling the list:
“Before voting, the PC Gamer team may nominate any computer game for consideration in the Top 100. From those nominations we compile a longlist of 300 titles. Each team member then subjectively scores those games across three weighted categories.”
- Quality: How well-crafted is it? A subjective evaluation.
- Importance: How notable is it? Its influence on other games and the wider industry.
- Originality: How unique is it? Its ability to stand out among peers.
A formula is then used to calculate the rankings and produce the list, though it is lightly curated afterwards:
For variety, we generally limit the list to one entry per series — we include multiple entries only when the titles are distinct enough to warrant separate recognition (for example, Baldur’s Gate II and III). Otherwise, lower-ranked entries from the same franchise are removed.
