Onimusha Sells 1 Million in a Day as Capcom Vows to ‘Re-activate’ More Classic Series

Capcom has struck gold once again with Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Marking the legendary historical action franchise’s first mainline installment in two decades, the title shattered expectations by shifting over one million units on its very first day, the acclaimed publisher confirmed on Monday.

This phenomenal debut extends Capcom’s stellar winning streak throughout 2026. The publisher’s momentum kicked off with Resident Evil Requiem crossing the 8 million sales mark, followed closely by the original sci-fi venture Pragmata (2.5 million copies) and the delightful Monster Hunter Stories 3. Every single one of these four releases has garnered widespread critical acclaim, comfortably maintaining Metacritic scores of 85 and above.

And the roster shows no signs of slowing down. On October 9, Capcom is slated to roll out the expansive Dark Arisen add-on for Dragon’s Dogma 2, accompanied by a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 edition. In fact, simultaneous day-one launches on Nintendo’s next-gen hardware have become a defining hallmark of Capcom’s remarkably lucrative 2026 lineup.

The beloved Mega Man franchise is next in line for this revival initiative, with the classic action-platforming series slated for a triumphant return in 2027 via Dual Override. Given that enthusiasts have spent even longer yearning for modern installments of Dino Crisis and Breath of Fire, the door might finally be open for those cult-classic series to make a long-awaited comeback.
