One Wrong Step Will Cost Players the Free Red Dead Redemption PS5 Upgrade

As of December 2, 2025, Red Dead Redemption for PS5 has been added to the PS Plus Extra and Premium catalogue. Owners of the PS4 edition should proceed with caution.

The issue originates from an old Sony licensing bug that remains unresolved since 2022. Downloading the PS5 version from the PS Plus catalogue can overwrite the PS4 license. If you later cancel your subscription, access to the game may be revoked—even if you previously purchased it.

To avoid this problem, open the PlayStation Store on your PS5 and download the free upgrade directly from there. If you own a physical copy, insert the disc into the console.

The PS5 edition offers native 4K at 60 FPS with improved lighting and shadows. The PC release now adds HDR support and a 4K interface. The update is roughly 9.7 GB, and save files can be transferred from PS4.
