Claude Starts Refusing to Create Games as New Anthropic Restrictions Affect Developers
Anthropic has restricted Claude’s ability to create copies of existing video games and reverse-engineer them. The restrictions have also affected developers working on original projects.
Users report that Claude Code and the Opus 5.5 model are blocking requests for harmless reverse engineering, including requests using the Reverse Engineer Anything tool. The restrictions are reportedly linked to a new rule prohibiting the recreation of specific existing games.
An X user named Chasm published what they said was the wording of the restriction:
Create original games, games in specific genres, and projects based on the user’s own ideas and assets. Do not create copies of specific existing games, even if they are renamed or described as original.

Developers have posted numerous complaints on the Claude Code GitHub page, saying the AI refuses to help them partway through work on projects, game mechanics, and bug fixes.
