Behaviour Interactive has faced criticism for supporting VTuber TheBurntPeanut during a Halloween stream. The creator has faced repeated accusations of offensive behavior, alleged viewbotting, and the use of racial and homophobic slurs. In response to the company’s involvement, dozens of players said they had uninstalled Dead by Daylight and expressed their frustration on social media. Behaviour has since issued a statement addressing the controversy.

TheBurntPeanut, a popular Twitch streamer, played Dead by Daylight for the first time as part of his Halloween celebrations. During the broadcast, the game’s official account joined the stream and offered him all of its paid downloadable content. The offer prompted backlash among players familiar with the allegations surrounding the creator. When TheBurntPeanut reportedly declined the gift over concerns about a potential controversy, the official Dead by Daylight Twitch account replied, “We can take the heat!”

Behaviour Interactive addresses TheBurntPeanut controversy

In its statement to the community, Behaviour said it offered the content after noticing the large audience watching someone experience Dead by Daylight for the first time. The company explained that it sometimes provides creators with in-game content to introduce the game to new audiences, but acknowledged that it had failed to review TheBurntPeanut’s past content or assess whether he reflected its values.

Behaviour said the content has since been removed from the streamer’s account. It is also reviewing and updating its approval process for distributing free content to creators. The company reiterated its commitment to respect and diversity, adding that it wants Dead by Daylight to be a welcoming place where players feel safe being themselves.

According to the statement, the decision to offer the content was made quickly by an unnamed team member rather than discussed by the wider team. Behaviour said it would take internal action but would not disclose further details because the matter is confidential. The response did little to satisfy some players, many of whom argued that the explanation and stated consequences were insufficient.
