One Piece Team to Adapt New Brandon Sanderson Series for Television

The reach of Brandon Sanderson’s expansive literary world is growing, with more of his high-stakes storytelling destined for the small screen.

Following a high-profile agreement with Apple TV earlier this year to develop his Cosmere universe, Sanderson is expanding his media footprint. As Deadline reported on Wednesday, another of his celebrated sci-fi properties is officially heading to television, courtesy of Tomorrow Studios—the production house recognized for their work on the live-action adaptation of One Piece.

Tomorrow Studios has been tapped to adapt the Skyward series and its subsequent sequels. Set within Sanderson’s “Cytoverse”—a sprawling narrative spanning four novels alongside various novellas—the story follows an aspiring pilot determined to defend humanity during a brutal, star-faring conflict.

“I’ve been refining the Skyward series for nearly a decade, and partnering with Tomorrow Studios to translate this vision for television is a dream realized,” Sanderson remarked. He is set to pen the pilot script for the upcoming series.

With an bibliography boasting dozens of epic fantasy and science-fiction hits that have collectively surpassed 50 million copies sold, Sanderson’s caution regarding Hollywood has been well-documented. As recently as late 2024, the author expressed skepticism about the streaming landscape. “I’m not convinced that we have hit stability in the streaming market,” Sanderson shared in a previous interview. “Streaming has struggled to crack the code for epic fantasy, and that has been a point of concern for me.”

Clearly, his outlook on the industry has evolved. With active development on the Mistborn feature film and now the Skyward television project, Sanderson is positioning himself at the helm of his own cinematic universe.
