The horror film “Obsession” has officially shattered the $500 million mark at the global box office, reaching a total of $501.5 million.

Directed by Currie Barker, the film has cemented its status as the highest-grossing original property of the 2020s, surpassing Pixar’s “Elemental” ($496 million). Domestically, “Obsession” pulled in $263.4 million, while international markets contributed $238.1 million. Russian audiences added an impressive 530 million rubles to its total earnings.

The narrative follows Bear (Michael Johnston), a reserved young man hopelessly enamored with his coworker, Nikki (Indi Navarrete). Desperate to win her affection, Bear resorts to using a magical talisman to wish for Nikki’s eternal love. While his wish is granted, the consequences quickly spiral into a harrowing and terrifying reality.

Produced on a shoestring budget of just $750,000, “Obsession” has been met with critical acclaim, boasting a 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Until recently, it held the title of the most profitable film in history, before being overtaken by the viral Chinese animated feature “Neilai,” which grossed $4 million against a budget of just $200.
