NO LAW Shows Off Physics and 3,000 Characters on the Streets
NO LAW, the cyberpunk action game from The Ascent developer Neon Giant, will feature around 3,000 NPCs and serve as a showcase for Unreal Engine 5’s graphics capabilities.
After NO LAW made a strong impression at gamescom, Neon Giant and Epic Games shared details about its technology. Players will have considerable freedom in the game’s vast city, including the ability to kill any character they meet. Those actions will have serious consequences.
The developers are using Nanite, Lumen, MetaHuman, Mass, and Niagara. The team of around 25 people is paying attention to even small objects in the environment. Players will explore the city from a first-person perspective. The developers also demonstrated the physics and particle system, which are particularly visible in the third minute of the video.
The developers said:
We wondered how many characters it would take to make the city feel alive. We settled on around 3,000 characters walking around our city. (…) To make that possible, we used the MetaHuman system.
Neon Giant, which released The Ascent, also showed a video about player decisions and their consequences three weeks ago. NO LAW is scheduled for release on PC and consoles in 2027.
