Nikita Buyanov Responds to Complaints About Bans Over Escape from Tarkov Refunds on Steam

Several customers requested refunds and encountered problems.

To play Escape from Tarkov through Steam, players must purchase the game on Steam even if they previously pre-ordered on the developer’s website. After running into technical issues, some users chose to request refunds for Tarkov, and worrying reports soon began circulating online.

Members of the EFT community started sharing reports about so-called “refund bans” — alleging that after refunding the Steam version their main Battlestate Games account, which they had used to buy the game, was blocked.

There were also claims that bans hit users who hadn’t linked Steam to that account, which fueled theories about IP-based or hardware-level bans.

Nikita Buyanov issued a rebuttal. According to him, bans are applied only to cheaters:

People claim that if you request a refund on Steam you’ll be blocked by IP or have your main account (used to buy the game on the Tarkov site) banned — that’s false and completely unfounded. At the moment we only ban users who attempt to cheat.
