New X-Men ’97 Comic Series to Bridge the Gap Between Seasons This Summer

For those eagerly awaiting the continuation of X-Men ’97, the hiatus following that stunning Season 1 finale has felt particularly long. However, Marvel has just offered a much-needed lifeline. A newly announced prelude comic series is set to bridge the narrative gap, and its debut date provides our most significant clue yet regarding when Season 2 might finally arrive on Disney+.

Titled X-Men ’97: Season Two, this five-issue limited series is penned by writer Steve Foxe and illustrated by artist Salva Espin. The story picks up the pieces immediately after the first season’s conclusion, propelling the story into the upcoming episodes. “Follow the X-Men left behind in a world that hunts and hates mutantkind! Can they survive? And just where — or when — are the X-Men now?!” Marvel teased in their official announcement. The publisher also hinted that the prequel will introduce “major new characters and teams,” suggesting a first look at the fresh mutants set to join the animated roster.

Foxe emphasized that the comic will lean fully into the dramatic changes established in the finale. “Our prequel for Season Two doesn’t take any shortcuts around that wild status quo,” the writer noted, ensuring fans that the stakes remain high.

The first installment of the series is scheduled to hit shelves on June 3. This specific timing reinforces expectations that Season 2 is firmly on track for a summer 2026 release, and the premiere could be closer than many anticipate.

While prequel comics often conclude before a show begins, Marvel’s previous strategy suggests a different pattern. For the show’s debut, the tie-in comic launched its first issue just one week after the premiere episode aired. If Season 2 follows this precedent, the wait for new episodes might be nearly over.
