New Witcher Book in Development by Andrzej Sapkowski

The Witcher fans have plenty to look forward to, including a remaster of The Witcher 3, the Songs of the Past expansion, and The Witcher 4, which is expected sometime in 2028. Fans likely know by now that these monster-hunting games are based on an iconic book series, just like the Netflix show. Now, author Andrzej Sapkowski has more stories on the way.

At a recent convention appearance in Poland, Sapkowski confirmed he is working on the next Witcher book and expects to finish writing it by the end of 2027. According to the Witcher news site Redanian Intelligence, the book will once again star Geralt. Sapkowski stated that he does not intend to write any Witcher books focusing on other characters, such as Yennefer.

Is another The Witcher prequel starring Geralt on the way?

The most recent Witcher book was 2025’s The Witcher: Crossroads of Ravens, a prequel about a young Geralt’s first major adventure as a Witcher. Because Geralt is middle-aged throughout the main short story collections and novels, plenty of years in his life remain unexplored, and Sapkowski acknowledges this.

In an interview with IGN, he said “Sky is the limit” when asked if there is room to delve further into Geralt’s formative years through additional prequels. He also added, “I am considering writing more short stories.” The Witcher series originally began with a short story, and Sapkowski published two collections before releasing the first novel, Blood of Elves.

Even so, he finds writing short stories to be a distinct challenge. “It is not an easy thing to create a good short story. This is much more difficult than writing a novel,” Sapkowski said.

Whether the next Witcher book features a younger Geralt or an experienced one, Sapkowski is aiming for completion by the end of next year. As Redanian Intelligence noted, Polish readers could see the next book by late 2027 or early 2028 if Sapkowski finishes on schedule. Following the release pattern of Crossroads of Ravens, international readers would receive their translations about a year later.
