New Trailer Released for Genkei, the Latest Game from the Director of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus

GenDesign, the visionary studio spearheaded by Fumito Ueda—the mastermind behind iconic titles like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian—has pulled the curtain back on their latest endeavor. Previously known by the working title Project Robot, this ambitious new project, which first teased audiences at The Game Awards 2024, is officially titled Gen Atlas.

Positioned as an expansive, single-player action-adventure experience, Gen Atlas casts players into a desolate, hauntingly beautiful planet littered with the hulking, derelict remains of giant machines. In a striking departure from Ueda’s traditional design philosophy, the game introduces third-person shooter mechanics, tasking players with utilizing firearms to neutralize threats. Beyond combat, the trailer showcases a scale of movement previously unseen in the director’s work, including moments where the protagonist scales colossal robotic entities and assumes control of their massive mechanical heads.

While an official release date remains under wraps, Gen Atlas is confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. With Epic Games handling publishing duties, the title will also launch exclusively on the Epic Games Store for PC players.
