Following a flurry of speculation concerning an indefinite postponement for 007 First Light on the Nintendo Switch 2, developer IO Interactive has moved to clarify the situation. In a social media update, the studio confirmed that while the James Bond adventure remains on track for its May 27 debut on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, the Switch 2 iteration has been rescheduled for a release “later this summer.”
This isn’t the first time the project has faced a scheduling shift. Originally intended for a March launch, the title saw a general delay across all platforms in late 2025. At the time, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak emphasized that the extension was vital to ensuring the final product met the high expectations of the fanbase from day one.
The delay highlights an emerging pattern for high-profile ports on Nintendo's upcoming hardware. Borderlands 4 was similarly pushed back on the platform despite its release on rival consoles last year. Meanwhile, the Switch 2 version of Elden Ring has endured a rocky path, though recent industry previews suggest development is finally stabilizing. In contrast, publishers like Capcom appear to have found a more efficient rhythm, launching titles like Resident Evil Requiem day-and-date across all systems.
For the time being, Nintendo enthusiasts will have to wait just a bit longer to experience the genesis of the world's most famous secret agent. This cinematic origin story promises a fresh perspective on the franchise, featuring reimagined versions of staples like M and Q, alongside a primary antagonist portrayed by Lenny Kravitz.
