Netflix’s Dealies Is a Workplace Comedy Series From Joe Bennett

Joe Bennett’s next animated series will differ from his earlier work on Scavengers Reign and Common Side Effects. The upcoming Netflix series Dealies centers on the odd characters who work at a big-box store. An antique shop across the street provides some competition.

Bennett shared a few new details about the project in an interview about Common Side Effects, which has a second season on the way. Dealies is expected to arrive in 2027.

“My earlier original shorts are more comedy-based and comedy-focused. I think it’s pulling a lot more from that sort of thing,” Bennett said. “It’s an episodic comedy series where a bunch of current characters work together in a big box store.”

Steve Hely works with Bennett on Common Side Effects but is not involved in Dealies. He described the new show as character-driven and rooted in the oddities of everyday life.

“It’s very Joe Bennett in that it’s very character-based. Very observed,” Hely said. “Kind of an offbeat kind of character … exists in our real world, but capturing weirdness.”

What else do we know about Dealies?

Netflix announced Dealies earlier this year as an adult animated series from Bennett and writer Ted Travelstead. The two serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers. The show comes from Green Street Pictures, the studio Bennett co-founded.

The official logline introduces a staff of unusual employees, including “a savant salesman,” “a gentle gladiator,” and “a summoner of the divine.” It also mentions the unfortunate person who hired them. The employees are described as masters of commerce who occasionally get around to doing some actual work.

Bennett previously co-created Scavengers Reign, a surreal science fiction series about humans stranded on an alien planet. He also co-created Common Side Effects, an Adult Swim conspiracy comedy about a mushroom with potentially world-changing properties. Both shows reflect his interest in strange worlds and offbeat characters. Dealies appears to bring that sensibility to a more recognizable setting.

Netflix has not announced a specific release date for Dealies. The series is currently expected sometime in 2027.
