Netflix has secured the rights to adapt Valley of Dust — a contemporary reimagining of The Great Gatsby by screenwriter Stephen Gaghan (Traffic). The film will be set in present-day San Francisco.
Gaghan is expected to take on both writing and directing duties for the project.
The original novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald was published in 1925. It centers on bond salesman Nick Carraway, who becomes obsessed with the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby. The most recent film adaptation, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, was released in 2013.
