Netflix Cancels Plans for Squid Game Spin-off

Netflix has reportedly decided to scrap plans for an English-language spin-off of its global hit series Squid Game, according to reports from The Playlist.

While Netflix has yet to issue an official statement, the project—tentatively titled Heckler—was slated to be helmed by acclaimed director David Fincher. The script was penned by Dennis Kelly, known for his work on Utopia, and production was expected to take place in the United Kingdom. Industry insiders suggest that Netflix lost interest in pursuing a Squid Game reimagining, while Fincher shifted his focus toward other collaborations with the platform, such as Cliff Booth.

The finale of the original series featured a surprise cameo from Cate Blanchett, who appeared as a recruiter, sparking speculation about her potential involvement in the expanding franchise. Squid Game premiered on Netflix in 2021 and remains the most-watched production in the streaming service’s history.
