The launch of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection was meant to be a celebration for long-time fans, but instead it sparked a wave of criticism. Players point out that the compilation is missing essential online features — there are no public or private lobbies.
At the moment, the only way to play online is via a quick match against a random opponent. There’s no option to invite friends, a serious blow to the competitive scene and to those who enjoy organized online matches. As a result, many have decided not to buy the collection.
YouTuber Mike Hollow observed that most Mortal Kombat fans are adults who can’t easily meet up in person anymore — they depend on convenient, well-designed online tools.
Adding to the frustration, developer Digital Eclipse and publisher Warner Bros. Games announced the complete lack of lobbies only 12 hours before release.
“That’s unfair to players who pre-ordered without knowing these details,” wrote blogger J Gleez, reminding readers that such features have been considered industry standard for the past 20 years.
The situation is made worse by the absence of crossplay. The official FAQ includes a “coming soon” section, but it doesn’t mention any plans to introduce cross-platform play.
“Another Mortal Kombat launching without basic features…” fans lament on social media. Although Digital Eclipse has promised updates, the community insists that a franchise of this magnitude deserves far more.
