HBO Chief Discusses Release Schedule for New Harry Potter Seasons
Preparations for filming the second season are underway.
The first season of the Harry Potter series will not be released until December 25, 2026, but HBO is already preparing to start filming the continuation, which will adapt Chamber of Secrets, any day now. Releasing new seasons annually will not be possible due to the scale of production. Nevertheless, HBO head Casey Bloys assured Deadline in an interview that the breaks between them will not reach two years:
“No. We are trying our hardest to get the sequel out as quickly as possible. The break between seasons will not be two years, but we are trying to minimize it as much as possible.”

It was reported earlier that the creators want to find a balance between production speed and the workload on the actors and crew. They have to speed up in part because of the age of the young actors, who will be growing up alongside their characters.
HBO originally envisioned the new Harry Potter adaptation as a 10-year project. However, taking into account the breaks between seasons, the adaptation of all seven books may ultimately exceed that timeframe.
