Moonlighter 2 Officially Leaves Early Access During the Busiest Time of the Year
Following a successful stint in early access that began last autumn, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is officially preparing for its full version 1.0 debut this summer. The beloved rogue-lite shopkeeping simulator arrives on September 2. To celebrate the occasion, developer Digital Sun and publisher 11 Bit Studios are generously offering the original game as a complimentary Steam download for a limited time.
Stepping up from the charming pixel art of the 2018 original, Moonlighter 2 embraces a vibrant, isometric 3D perspective. Players once again step into the boots of adventurous merchant Will, splitting their time between perilous dungeon expeditions and managing their bustling storefront. Naturally, acquiring rare commodities requires surviving treacherous combat encounters. The upcoming 1.0 update brings a definitive conclusion to the narrative arc, alongside an arsenal of fresh weaponry, protective gear, and the explosive new Bomb path ability.
Reviewing the early access phase for Polygon, Johnny Yu noted that while the sequel still possessed room to evolve, its foundation was remarkably strong. “In its current state, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is not the perfect dungeon-to-shop simulator, but with developer Digital Sun running the register, it has the potential to be,” he observed. With nearly 1,200 “Very Positive” player reviews on Steam, the studio has clearly turned that potential into reality.
The arrival of Moonlighter 2 coincides with an exceptionally crowded autumn release window for the gaming industry. Titles like Resonance: A Plague Legacy and Star Wars Zero Company debut on August 27, closely followed by The Blood of Dawnwalker, Orbitals, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword early the next week. Meanwhile, September brings an overwhelming wave of high-profile launches, including Marvel’s Wolverine, Control: Resonant, Qliphah in Providence’s Shadow, and Silent Hill: Townfall, making it an extraordinarily packed season for enthusiasts.
Beyond expanding its platform footprint—moving past its initial Windows PC and Xbox Series X early access windows—the 1.0 release of Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault will also extend to the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. For eager players looking to dive in early, a playable demo is currently available across all supported platforms.
