Stepping into the world of Monster Hunter Wilds is about to become significantly more accessible. Capcom has unveiled a strategy to streamline its purchasing options, refreshing the game’s storefront presence roughly 18 months post-launch. This update introduces a comprehensive definitive edition and implements a permanent price reduction for the standard base game.
Capcom detailed these upcoming storefront adjustments via social media on July 13. Currently, players navigate a mix of Deluxe and Premium Deluxe editions, alongside a standalone Cosmetic DLC Pass. Effective August 3 at 8:00 p.m. ET, these legacy purchasing paths will be phased out.
In place of the outgoing options, Capcom is rolling out a simplified selection. The new “Extras Cosmetic DLC” pack will consolidate various previously individual paid skins into a single purchase, while the “Cosmetic DLC Collection” will encompass 10 distinct packs. Additionally, a new Gold Edition will arrive, bundling the base game with the entirety of the Cosmetic DLC Collection—retaining all the premium bonuses previously exclusive to the Premium Deluxe version.
While specific pricing for the Gold Edition and the new bundles remains under wraps, Capcom confirmed that the base game will see a permanent price drop starting August 4. Although the exact discount percentage isn’t public, the game’s current $69.99 price tag could potentially dip into the $40–$50 range based on the developer’s historical pricing trends. Such an adjustment might effectively position the new Gold Edition at the current standard price point, offering veteran value for new hunters.
Monster Hunter Wilds remains a monumental success for Capcom, cementing its place as the company’s fastest-selling title after moving 8 million units during its opening weekend. Despite this commercial dominance, the title sparked debate between newcomers and series stalwarts. In our initial assessment, we noted that while Wilds represents a sophisticated technical leap for the franchise, it occasionally feels as though the series’ defining character is becoming obscured by its own ambition. Fans have further content to look forward to, with the Ascendance paid expansion slated for a 2027 arrival.
You can jump into Monster Hunter Wilds today on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Development for a version tailored to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is also currently underway.
