Modder Is Building Bully “Remake” in Unreal Engine 5 With NPCs Given Conscious AI and Speech

Rockstar has not released a Bully remaster, so one fan has started building his own version with some unusual features.

A developer who goes by oh-ashen-one recently posted gameplay footage on X from a project called “Bully Remake — Unreal Engine 5.8.” He describes it as a “1-to-1 fan port of Bully: Scholarship Edition.”

The developer has already moved part of Bully: Scholarship Edition to Unreal Engine 5. The project goes beyond a straight port, because oh-ashen-one also uses AI technology to “bring NPCs to life,” so players can hold conversations with characters:

I gave every NPC its own consciousness and the ability to speak. I connected Fish
Audio and a few other interesting things, so now you can talk to any
character in the game, and it will not only remember your conversations but also be able to
respond to you. You can meet 1,000 NPCs with unlimited possibilities
instead of the previous 8 dialogue options to choose from.

i’ve begun porting the original Bully into Unreal Engine

if they won’t remaster the games then WE will!!!

runs at 1080p/45FPS and on a mac (here’s the entire map)

oh-ashen-one compared the feature to a character from a FromSoftware game:

Imagine talking to Patches from Dark Souls 1,
asking him about his travels or learning more lore about him […] Now you
can chat with an NPC
as long as you want, and he will answer you in character. You can
literally just sit and talk with them for hours if you really feel like it.

Bully Remake — Unreal Engine 5.8 already has a page on GitHub, which oh-ashen-one named “bully-remake.” The developer believes the project can be improved with other AI tools. As an example, he said that by connecting Jev, NPCs could “play the game” on their own, as in Animal Crossing, where you can give someone a task and they bring you wood.
