Microsoft Didn’t Promote Its Project but Set a Guinness World Record with Ninja Gaiden 4
Microsoft didn’t mount any promotional campaign for Double Fine Productions’ new title, yet PlatinumGames hasn’t complained about the lack of support.
Last week Microsoft made no visible effort to promote the release of Keeper, but for the launch of Ninja Gaiden 4 it marked the occasion with a spectacular event that set a Guinness World Record.
Ahead of the premiere, Xbox staged the world’s largest video game display on a screen suspended between two helicopters. The 20 m² screen over Miami Beach showcased the game’s protagonist.
Two helicopters were airborne at once: in one was Emmanuel “Master” Rodriguez, Team Ninja’s community manager, and in the other was rapper Swae Lee. Both operated the character from a single helicopter, while the gameplay was broadcast live on the giant screen.
Organizers stressed that the event drew on Tokyo-inspired neon aesthetics and the urban style of the Ninja Gaiden series. The broadcast relied on sports-broadcast technology.
Spectators of the unusual show included passengers on cruise liners departing the Port of Miami, who watched the spectacle from their decks.
