Michael” Becomes the Highest-Grossing Musical Biopic After “Bohemian Rhapsody

The film “Michael,” centered on the life of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has achieved a global box office total of $423 million. This milestone solidifies its position as the second highest-grossing music biopic in history, trailing only “Bohemian Rhapsody” ($911 million).

Both cinematic endeavors were produced by Academy Award winner Graham King. “Michael” generated $183 million in North America and an additional $240 million in international markets, against a production budget estimated at $200 million. The film is scheduled for release in Russian theaters on May 28.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua (“The Equalizer”), “Michael” chronicles the formative years of Jackson’s illustrious career, featuring his nephew, Jaafar Jackson, in the titular role. Despite its commercial success, the film received a mixed reception from critics, currently holding a 39% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
