4A Games, in collaboration with Deep Silver and Xbox, has officially pulled back the curtain on Metro 2039, the highly anticipated fourth installment in the celebrated Metro franchise. While specific gameplay details remain under wraps, fans won’t have to wait long for a deeper look: a full reveal event is locked in for Thursday, April 16.

According to an official Xbox Wire update, which includes a countdown to the upcoming broadcast, the presentation is scheduled to kick off at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET. This new title follows the storied history of the series, which began with Metro 2033 (2010), continued through Metro: Last Light (2013), and reached an emotional crescendo in Metro Exodus (2019). These post-apocalyptic shooters, inspired by Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novels, have long been lauded for their immersive atmosphere. The series most recently expanded with the 2024 VR-exclusive prequel, Metro Awakening.

The franchise is renowned for its claustrophobic, tension-filled gameplay, set primarily within the irradiated subway tunnels of a ruined Moscow, interspersed with dangerous expeditions to the surface. With Metro Exodus taking place in 2035, the timeline for Metro 2039 jumps four years forward. At this stage, it remains unclear whether the story will feature familiar faces or introduce an entirely new perspective on this desolate world.
