Authorities have confirmed they are reviewing sexual assault allegations made by Ruby Rose against Katy Perry following a series of public social media posts.
Law enforcement officials in Melbourne, Australia, announced on Wednesday (April 15) that investigators from their sexual offenses and child abuse unit have initiated an inquiry into a historical sexual assault reported to have taken place in the city in 2010.
A police spokesperson stated, “Authorities were informed that the alleged incident occurred at a licensed venue in Melbourne’s central business district. As this remains an active investigation, it would be inappropriate to provide further comment at this time.”
Representatives for both Katy Perry and Ruby Rose have been contacted for comment.
This development follows a firm denial from the pop singer earlier this week. In a statement provided to Billboard, Perry’s team dismissed the claims as “categorically false, dangerous, and reckless lies,” further asserting that the Orange Is the New Black actress has a documented history of making unfounded public accusations against various figures.
The controversy began on Sunday (April 12) when Rose commented on an unrelated Threads post regarding Perry, claiming the singer assaulted her at a nightclub in Melbourne years ago. Rose noted that she had previously downplayed the incident as a “funny little drunk story” to cope with the trauma, but eventually chose to report the matter to local authorities.
On Tuesday (April 14), Rose provided an update on the situation, stating she had completed her formal reports with the police. “I am no longer able to comment, repost, or speak publicly about any of these cases or the individuals involved,” she wrote, adding that the request from law enforcement was a “relief” that would allow her to begin her healing process.
