Reports have surfaced confirming that production has wrapped on the biblical epic, The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection. Mel Gibson’s two-part cinematic event is slated for theatrical release in the spring of 2027.
Filming took place in Rome. This duology serves as a direct follow-up to the 2004 original, The Passion of the Christ. The narrative focuses on the harrowing journey of Jesus Christ as he descends into hell following his crucifixion.
The project features Jaakko Ohtonen (The Last Kingdom) and Mariela Garriga (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning), who have stepped into roles previously held by Jim Caviezel and Monica Bellucci. Industry rumors suggest the production budget for Resurrection exceeded $250 million.
Whether the films will receive a release in Russia remains unconfirmed. Lionsgate is handling distribution for the United States.
