Meghan Trainor has finally addressed the internet’s fascination with the so-called “toxic” celebrity mom group. In a candid interview with Us Weekly released this past Wednesday, the singer-songwriter shared that Ashley Tisdale reached out to extend a personal apology as rumors swirled around the fallout.

The controversy stems from an essay Tisdale penned for The Cut earlier this year, in which the High School Musical star described feeling marginalized within a social circle of fellow mothers. While Tisdale didn’t name names, internet sleuths quickly jumped to conclusions, linking Trainor, Hilary Duff, and others to the group. Reflecting on the situation, Trainor admitted she hadn’t been the most present friend due to her demanding professional schedule. “I felt like a bad mom friend,” she confessed. “They were a supportive group who held events, but I was rarely able to show up.”

Trainor emphasized that the situation was largely a byproduct of misunderstandings rather than genuine malice. She noted that when the public discourse erupted, she was surprised to see her own name dragged into the narrative. “I wasn’t even there, yet my face was everywhere,” she explained. “It was a difficult time for those in the group who value their privacy.”

Ultimately, the “All About That Bass” singer maintains a sympathetic perspective toward the drama. After texting with the group members, she revealed that Tisdale reached out to apologize for the unwanted attention the essay brought to her peers. “I told her it was alright,” Trainor shared. “The internet loves to latch onto a story, but there’s no bad blood here.”

While stars like Hilary Duff previously voiced frustration over the public scrutiny—telling Alex Cooper on Call Her Daddy that she felt “used” by the narrative—Trainor has kept her response lighthearted. Ahead of her upcoming album Toy With Me, set for an April 24 release, she has channeled her signature confidence, echoing the sentiment of her music: she simply doesn’t care about the gossip.
