“Maybe We Should Pay Animators More or Hire a Production Designer?” — Star Wars: Visions Accused of Plagiarizing Fan-Made Short Film

The creator of the fan film Dark Jedi claims that an episode of the animated series reproduces scenes from his work frame for frame.

A fresh controversy has erupted in the Star Wars community: Disney faces accusations of plagiarism. Dark Jedi’s creator, Lorenz Hideyoshi, noticed that the seventh episode of the second season of the anthology Star Wars: Visions appears to use nearly identical fight choreography. He says the duel between a Jedi and a Sith mirrors the movements, camera angles, and even the editing of his short film.

Hideyoshi shared a side-by-side comparison on social media, arguing that the Visions team “copied the staging without even changing the camera angles.” He emphasized that his fan short was a non-commercial tribute that never generated revenue, while Disney allegedly repurposed the original concept for content distributed behind a subscription. He concluded with a pointed remark:

“Maybe they should simply pay their animators more — or hire a staging director?”

Responses on social platforms have been mixed. Some argue Disney should acknowledge the similarity and compensate the creator. Others note that Dark Jedi itself draws on existing intellectual property, making the complaint more complicated. Still, many observers say the resemblance is too precise to be coincidental.

Each episode of Star Wars: Visions is produced by an independent studio; in this instance the responsibility falls on the Indian company 88 Pictures, which developed episode seven of season two, titled “Bandits of Golak.” Representatives for Disney and Lucasfilm have not issued official statements so far.
