Marvel Studios Sets Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider for 2028 Release

Marvel has locked in the theatrical premiere date for its upcoming Ghost Rider film starring Ryan Gosling. After revealing the project last month without a specific date unlike Black Panther 3, Marvel Studios announced that Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider will hit theaters on July 28, 2028. The release falls on the final Friday of July, a window that has delivered steady box office success for the studio.

The July date positions Ghost Rider as the second Marvel Cinematic Universe entry to debut after Avengers: Secret Wars lands in December 2027. Together with Avengers: Doomsday, the two crossover films will reshape the franchise, even if Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has stopped short of calling the transition a full reboot.

Marvel’s 2028 Release Slate

Marvel will open its 2028 theatrical schedule with the new X-Men film on May 5, 2028. Several mutant roles were announced during the D23 fan event, including Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and Inde Navarette as Rogue.

Ghost Rider will follow in late July. Shawn Levy, who directed Deadpool & Wolverine and is attached to Gosling’s Star Wars: Starfighter, will direct the film. Marvel has not yet announced which iteration of the character Gosling will portray. Nicolas Cage played Johnny Blaze across two separate features, while Gabriel Luna brought Robbie Reyes to live action in the series Agents of SHIELD.

Late July dates have consistently served Marvel well. The Fantastic Four: First Steps started Phase 6 in July 2025, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day set box office records upon its release last month.

The studio will wrap up 2028 with Black Panther 3 on Dec. 15, 2028. The film stars David Jonsson as the adult son of T’Challa. Letitia Wright’s Shuri and Winston Duke’s M’Baku are slated to return after appearing in Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel also holds an untitled film date on Nov. 9, 2029. Potential candidates for the opening include the Nova project confirmed by Feige and the upcoming Shang-Chi sequel.
