Marvel Reportedly Casts Peter Claffey as Beast in New X-Men Movie
Marvel’s next big event is Avengers: Doomsday, but many fans are already looking ahead to the studio’s X-Men reboot. Knight Edge Media reports that Peter Claffey has been cast as Beast in the 2028 X-Men film. Claffey is an Irish actor best known for playing Sir Duncan in HBO’s acclaimed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Claffey was a professional rugby player before he graduated from Bow Street Academy for Screen Acting in 2020. He made his professional stage debut in 2022 and has since taken several TV roles, including Joe Walsh in Bad Sisters. Charles Melton was reportedly also in the running to play Beast. He dropped out to focus on playing Kakashi Hatake in the Naruto live-action movie.
Beast first appeared in X-Men #1 (1963). The character is known for the contrast between his bestial appearance and his impressive intellect. Kelsey Grammer played the mutant in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past. He will return in Avengers: Doomsday, which will presumably be his last appearance as Beast. Nicholas Hoult played the younger Beast in the X-Men prequel films, where the genius had a more central role.
More X-Men casting news
Knight Edge Media’s Caleb William also reported that Renate Reinsve met with Marvel about playing Moira MacTaggert. Reinsve’s credits include Backrooms, Sentimental Value, Fjord and The Worst Person in the World. The Oscar-nominated actress recently said in an interview that she wouldn’t fit in a Marvel movie, so it remains to be seen whether she will take the part.
Moira MacTaggert is typically portrayed as a geneticist who works closely with mutants. In more recent comics such as House of X, she has been recast as a mutant who can redo her life and reality itself each time she dies.
Who has been officially cast so far?
The upcoming X-Men movie already has quite a cast. The confirmed names are:
- Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier
- Sadie Sink as Jean Grey
- Inde Navarrette as Rogue
- Kit Connor as Cyclops
- Samara Weaving as Emma Frost
- Maya Boyd as Storm
- Asa Germann as Angel
- Adam Driver as the main antagonist, Mister Sinister
With so many new faces, the film will likely be a complete reset from the earlier Fox-produced movies, building out the MCU version of these characters. X-Men is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on May 5, 2028.
