Robert Pattinson Responds to New Director on The Batman Part 2 as Filming Resumes
Robert Pattinson has commented on a chaotic month for The Batman Part 2. A new director is now helping finish the film, and production has officially resumed. At the start of October, DC announced that production had halted because Matt Reeves stepped away for a family matter. A few weeks later, Steven Soderbergh was revealed as the director coming on to help complete Reeves’ vision. Pattinson has only praise for Soderbergh. He calls the director’s approach to the film “completely selfless.”
Pattinson told GamesRadar that filming is back underway. “I think they’re in production already,” he said, and added that he will start shooting again “in a couple of days.” Soderbergh, whose credits include Ocean’s Eleven and Magic Mike, will take on the directing duties. Pattinson said he’s “so happy [Soderbergh]’s come on to help Matt [Reeves].” He described the director as generous, someone who simply wanted to help complete the vision of Reeves and Pattinson.
When DC announced Soderbergh’s involvement, he wrote in a statement that he “thought Matt Reeves’ work on The Batman was stunning; it was intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent.”
News of the production halt first worried fans that The Batman Part 2 might not happen at all. Four years have passed since the original movie came out, and the sequel has been delayed several times. DC’s film slate has also been through shake-ups. One example is James Gunn taking charge of a new DC Universe, which does not include Reeves’s movie. Still, Pattinson and DC insisted there was no scenario in which the film would go unreleased. With production back on track, the movie looks likely to hit its slated release date of Feb. 18, 2028.
What will The Batman Part 2 be about?

Plot details for Pattinson’s second outing as Bruce Wayne / Batman remain mostly under wraps. Reeves has described his connected Batman films and the The Penguin spin-off series as the “Batman Epic Crime Saga.” That label suggests the story will likely stay focused on Gotham’s seedy side rather than on over-the-top members of the rogues’ gallery.
Many expect the Court of Owls to appear as a villain, and production photos support that idea. The same photos showed the character Anarky, which hints that the film will address Gotham’s wealth inequality. That conflict would put Bruce Wayne, a member of the city’s elite, at its center. It could make for an interesting story if the city supports Batman but turns against Bruce.
Along with Pattinson, returning cast members include Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. Barry Keoghan may also return as the Joker.

Several newcomers join the cast. Sebastian Stan will play Harvey Dent. Scarlett Johansson will reportedly play Gilda Dent, Harvey’s wife. Charles Dance may play Charles Dent, Harvey’s father.
