Man of Tomorrow Reaches Assembly Cut Milestone
The post-production process for Man of Tomorrow remains on track despite behind-the-scenes changes at Warner Bros. caused by the merger with Paramount. Director James Gunn recently shared that Man of Tomorrow passed an important post-production editing milestone.
The assembly cut of Man of Tomorrow is complete
On Threads, user matthagen69 asked James Gunn if the assembly cut for Man of Tomorrow was complete. Gunn replied with a resounding “Yep!” which offered a hint about where the Superman sequel stands in post-production. An assembly cut serves as the first draft of a film edit where shots are laid out in order and the overall structure starts to take shape.
In a visual effects-heavy film like Man of Tomorrow, a substantial amount of work remains after the assembly cut stage beyond trimming unneeded footage. While this confirmation is a minor update overall, it shows that the movie’s post-production process remains on track amid major shake-ups at Warner Bros. The merger with Paramount to create Skydance is imminent, bringing major leadership changes.
Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, the co-CEOs of Warner Bros. Pictures who helped convince James Gunn and Peter Safran to spearhead DC Studios, are exiting the company. Fortunately for DC fans, Gunn and Safran will remain at the company following the merger. Gunn will see the production of Man of Tomorrow through to the end and is actively working on the movie.

Man of Tomorrow is scheduled for release in theaters on July 9, 2027. The only other DC Studios movies with firm release dates are Clayface on October 23, The Batman Part 2 on February 18, 2028, and Dynamic Duo on September 22, 2028.
