Limited Run Games Unveils Marvel Arcade Classics Collection

Marvel Maximum Collection Announcement

In an exciting collaboration, Limited Run Games and Konami have announced the Marvel Maximum Collection, a comprehensive anthology featuring six legendary 8-bit and 16-bit Marvel adventures. This compilation gathers a diverse array of fan-favorite titles originally released for arcade cabinets, the Sega Genesis, NES, and Super Nintendo, preserving a golden era of superhero gaming.

The collection showcases a broad spectrum of Marvel history, ranging from beloved side-scrolling brawlers to the notoriously challenging Silver Surfer. Below is the complete roster of titles and their included platforms:

  • X-Men: The Arcade Game (Arcade)
  • Captain America and The Avengers (Arcade, Sega Genesis, NES)
  • Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis)
  • Spider-Man/Venom: Separation Anxiety (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis)
  • Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear)
  • Silver Surfer (NES)

While many of these titles feature cooperative gameplay, Limited Run Games has highlighted that X-Men: The Arcade Game will support full 6-player online co-op, bolstered by rollback netcode for a fluid, lag-free experience. To bridge the gap between retro charm and modern convenience, every game in the bundle includes quality-of-life upgrades such as save states and a rewind feature.

Visual enthusiasts can choose from several display configurations, including filters designed to emulate the aesthetic of classic CRT monitors or modern high-definition output. Beyond the gameplay, the collection serves as a digital museum, offering a music player for iconic soundtracks and an extensive archive featuring high-resolution scans of original instruction manuals, marketing materials, and vintage box art.

The Marvel Maximum Collection is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. While Limited Run Games has yet to provide a definitive launch window, the anthology is officially listed as “coming soon.”
