The breakout star of “The White Lotus” is reportedly being eyed to portray a younger Aragorn in the upcoming Middle-earth cinematic expansion.
The upcoming feature The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum may introduce a fresh face for the iconic role of Aragorn. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, the studio is currently in discussions with British actor Leo Woodall—widely recognized for his performance in the second season of The White Lotus.
Richtman indicates that Woodall is in negotiations for a “lead male role” in the project. While the character’s identity has not been officially confirmed, it is widely speculated to be Aragorn. The film’s synopsis places the narrative roughly twenty years before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring, a period during which the heir of Isildur was known as the Ranger “Strider” and was actively searching for Gollum.
Earlier reports from journalist Jeff Sneider suggested that The Hunt for Gollum might serve as the opening chapter of a new Tolkien-inspired trilogy. Although Warner Bros. has yet to formally announce such extensive plans, Andy Serkis—who is directing and reprising his role as Gollum—has hinted that the story could span at least two films.
Principal photography for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is scheduled to commence in New Zealand in July 2026. The film is currently slated for an international theatrical release on December 17, 2027.
