With Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight arriving in just over a month, developers have begun unveiling a diverse wardrobe for the Caped Crusader. Players can already look forward to donning the vibrant Zur-En-Arrh ensemble and the striking samurai armor inspired by the Batman Ninja anime. However, the latest reveal from Warner Bros. Games and DC easily takes the top spot for the most anticipated addition.
A fresh trailer featuring legendary comic scribe Scott Snyder confirms that the imposing “Absolute Batman” is joining the game’s lineup in all his jagged, formidable glory. “Seeing our vision come to life in this medium is incredible,” Snyder noted. “The execution is fantastic.” As the mastermind behind the Absolute Batman comic run, Snyder has stripped the character down to his primal essentials: this version of Bruce Wayne lacks the typical billionaire status, the support of Alfred, or formal training from elite assassins.
Instead, this iteration of the hero is a physically imposing, blue-collar engineer. He’s a powerhouse with a stature that dwarfs professional linebackers. He also navigates his world with allies that fans will surely recognize, including an Absolute version of Catwoman, complete with her signature, polished silver helmet.
How Absolute Batman reimagines a literary icon
A deep dive into how Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta are reshaping the Dark Knight.
There are several unique nuances to this new Bruce Wayne that remain under wraps, as part of the appeal of the Absolute Universe is uncovering how these iconic figures have been reimagined. One immediate departure from the mainline hero is this version’s preference for using an axe in combat. Since the trailer doesn’t showcase the weapon in action, it is likely that the skin is strictly cosmetic, rather than a total overhaul of the character’s standard combat animations.
First teased at Gamescom last year, Legacy of the Dark Knight promises to deliver the refined, block-based artistry and fluid animations fans expect from the franchise. The game draws heavily from various cinematic eras, paying homage to everything from Michael Keaton’s classic performances to the gritty realism of 2022’s The Batman. The announcement trailer even featured lighthearted parodies of iconic moments, such as the intense showdown between Bane and Batman in The Dark Knight Rises.
