Electronic Arts has initiated a wave of layoffs impacting an undisclosed number of employees across the various developers collectively known as Battlefield Studios. As first reported by IGN, these reductions come in the wake of Battlefield 6’s commercial success following its launch last year.
According to the report, personnel from DICE, Criterion, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studios were affected by what EA characterizes as a strategic “realignment.” Despite the downsizing, these teams are expected to remain functional as they maintain support for Battlefield 6. The title famously became the highest-selling game of 2025 in the United States, marking the most successful debut in the history of the long-running franchise.
When pressed for specifics regarding the scale of the job cuts, a representative for Electronic Arts stated, “We have implemented targeted adjustments within our Battlefield structure to better synchronize our development teams with the primary interests of our community. Battlefield remains a cornerstone of our portfolio; we are committed to further investment in the IP, utilizing player feedback and data-driven insights from Battlefield Labs.”

Since its arrival, Battlefield 6 has expanded its ecosystem with the launch of RedSec, a free-to-play battle royale experience. While the studio recently shared a three-month development roadmap, it followed a notable delay for the game’s second season. The timing of these layoffs is particularly somber, occurring just months after the tragic passing of franchise lead Vince Zampella in December.
This news represents the latest in a series of turbulent shifts for EA this year. The publisher previously shuttered Cliffhanger Games, effectively canceling their Black Panther project, and reduced the workforce at Respawn Entertainment by roughly 100 positions. These internal changes coincide with a massive $55 billion acquisition deal involving the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and other partners, a move that will eventually see the gaming giant transition to a private entity.
