The actor portraying Johnny Cage seems brimming with confidence regarding the sequel’s potential for success.
According to reports from Comic Book Resources, Karl Urban, who takes on the mantle of Johnny Cage in “Mortal Kombat 2,” believes the follow-up to the hit martial arts film could emerge as the definitive video game adaptation. He shared these optimistic views during a recent appearance at Emerald City Comic-Con.
Urban described his time working on the project as a “fantastic experience.” The actor also mentioned that early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, citing the electric atmosphere and thunderous crowd reaction during a sneak peek at New York Comic Con as a sign of things to come.
The sequel’s plot follows Earthrealm’s champions as they gear up for a final, high-stakes confrontation. This time, they are joined by Johnny Cage in a desperate bid to stop Shao Kahn and dismantle his tyrannical rule before it consumes their entire world.
Several familiar faces return for the second installment, including Josh Lawson (Kano), Lewis Tan (Cole Young), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Mehcad Brooks (Jax), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Chin Han (Shang Tsung), and Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion). The cast also welcomes newcomers Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi. Simon McQuoid returns to direct, with a screenplay provided by Jeremy Slater.
“Mortal Kombat 2” is scheduled for a global theatrical release on May 6, 2026.
