Kane Parsons Releases Major Update for Backrooms 2
Dread Central reports that a sequel to Backrooms is in development and that Kane Parsons has signed on as director. According to the horror media outlet, fans can expect an announcement soon.
Backrooms 2 is reportedly coming soon
Backrooms originated from a photograph of a liminal space that caught the eye of Kane Parsons. He adapted the image into a viral horror web series on YouTube. A24 then picked up the project to turn it into an indie horror film directed by the YouTuber himself. The movie matched the popularity of the web series when Backrooms grossed nearly $400 million globally, which equals about 40 times its production budget.
In an interview with Variety in May, director Kane Parsons hinted at a possible sequel, stating, “Backrooms has always been planned to be more of a series that goes outside the confines of this film…I’ve got a contract, and I got a hold at my end, and that means I am definitely not done with Backrooms.” The sequel now appears to be moving forward sooner than expected. Dread Central states that an official announcement is imminent and that it has confirmation that Backrooms 2 will be Parsons’ next movie.
In June, entertainment industry insider Jeff Sneider claimed that Kane Parsons was working on a new project with Backrooms producer Osgood Perkins. Few details were available at the time, leaving it unknown whether the project was a sequel to the A24 horror success or something entirely different. Dread Central’s exclusive claims suggest the former is the more likely scenario.

Development plans for the sequel will be announced soon, meaning fans must wait for official news. Parsons has explained the ending of Backrooms, but plenty of lore remains for future titles to explore alongside unanswered questions. Hopefully, future installments will unpack these elements.
