Jujutsu Kaisen Director to Helm Return of Popular Shonen Anime with New Movie

An hour-long holiday special for the Undead Unluck anime — titled Undead Unluck: Winter Arc — has been announced, accompanied by a new trailer and fresh key art confirming the event.

The one-hour television special continues directly from the conclusion of season one and adapts the manga’s seventh arc while also expanding its scope: creator Yoshifumi Tozuka contributed original material and new characters that do not appear in the source chapters. Japanese rock group Queen Bee performs both theme songs for the special, listed as “01” and “02” for the opening and closing themes, respectively.

The special is being produced at E&H Production with Songhoo Park directing, storyboarding, and overseeing production. Park — who directed season one of Jujutsu Kaisen and the feature Jujutsu Kaisen 0 — brings his kinetic, choreography-heavy action style to the trailer. The screenplay is credited to Yamato Haishima, character designs to Hideyuki Morioka and Shunichi Ishimoto, and the score is composed by Kenichiro Suehiro.

Winter Arc corresponds to chapters 53–56 of the manga and centers on the clash over the UMA known as Winter between the Union and Under factions. The special will expand that sequence with an original storyline that introduces a new UMA, Balance, who has not appeared in the printed chapters. Undead Unluck follows Fuuko Izumo, a teenager cursed with a lethal “Unluck” ability, and Andy, an immortal man in search of a meaningful death; together they are enlisted by a covert organization where their powers trigger catastrophically large-scale conflicts.

Yoshifumi Tozuka’s Undead Unluck ran in Shonen Jump from January 2020 through January 2025, completing a run of 27 volumes. In the United States, the 2023 Undead Unluck TV anime is available on Hulu. David Production, which handled season one, will act as consultants for the Winter Arc special. No official confirmation has been issued regarding a full second season beyond this special.

Broadcast: Undead Unluck: Winter Arc will air in Japan on December 25, 2025.
