Jon Bernthal Action Thriller Becomes Global Streaming Hit

Jon Bernthal is the kind of actor who shows up in a project and fans are typically on board. Whether because of their love for Bernthal’s character Shane on The Walking Dead that helped to push him into mainstream fame or just his general vibe, people are obsessed with the Spider-Man: Brand New Day star. One of his latest films has found great success on streaming, which is surprising given that it is the second film in a franchise that is not exactly everyone’s first thought when they think of Bernthal.

Ben Affleck often takes on action roles that are exciting for fans of the actor. But his 2025 sequel to a movie where he played a man incredibly good at numbers shocked fans. Movies like the 2016 film The Accountant getting a sequel often do not seem real, and yet The Accountant 2 is working on streaming. With a 75% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 92% audience score, The Accountant 2 ranks higher than the first film in every regard. Plus, it put Bernthal and Affleck side by side in arguably one of the funnier buddy cop pairings possible.

The film is currently ranking number 9 on the top 10 original films on Prime Video. It ranks behind the 2026 movies Project Hail Mary and Masters of the Universe but is still finding success on the platform over a year after its release. Jon Bernthal Has Had Quite the Year

Bernthal kicked off the year with a Marvel special for his character, Frank Castle aka The Punisher, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After Daredevil: Born Again, The Punisher: One Last Kill released as Bernthal was on Broadway in the play adaptation of Dog Day Afternoon, starring opposite his friend and frequent co-star Ebon Moss Bachrach. This all led to the final season of The Bear hitting streaming before Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey was released, also starring Bernthal. Finally, Bernthal rounded out the summer with another Frank Castle adventure in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

So, The Accountant 2 being a streaming success is just the icing on Bernthal’s 2026.
