Johnny Depp in Talks to Return for Pirates of the Caribbean 6
Johnny Depp could reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the upcoming sixth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, according to producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
Speaking to Deadline during D23 2026, Bruckheimer offered an update regarding Pirates of the Caribbean 6: “We’re talking with Johnny [Depp], we’re working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done.”
Sources told Deadline that Depp would not return as the lead, but in a supporting capacity to Margot Robbie, who joined the film in 2020. The production has experienced a bumpy development path over the past few years. Robbie stated in 2022 that Disney had canceled the project, though Bruckheimer disputed that claim later that year. The producer’s recent remarks give renewed momentum to the production.

The previous entry in the series, Dead Men Tell No Tales, arrived in theaters in 2017 and earned $795.9 million worldwide. Domestic violence allegations against Depp, combined with audience fatigue, led Disney to place the franchise on hold for nearly a decade. Bruckheimer now appears ready to steer the property back into production.
