Joey Valence & Brae recently stopped by triple j’s iconic Like A Version segment to deliver a high-octane, synth-heavy reimagining of Amyl and the Sniffers’ 2021 punk anthem, “Security.” The duo masterfully transformed the gritty original into a bass-thumping, dance-rap hybrid.

Currently on the road promoting their sophomore album, HYPERYOUTH, the pair traded the original track’s pub-rock guitar riffs for punchy electronic production and rapid-fire vocal deliveries, all while successfully capturing the frenetic spirit of Amy Taylor’s hallmark performance.

When discussing the song choice, Brae emphasized that “Security” was an easy pick due to its sheer infectious energy. “It’s got that immediate hook that makes you want to bounce off the walls,” he noted. “We knew right away that we had to cover it.”

The duo also expressed admiration for the raw, unpolished authenticity that defined Comfort To Me, the Amyl and the Sniffers album that brought the Melbourne group onto the global stage. Since its 2021 release, that record has solidified Taylor’s reputation as one of the most commanding frontpeople in modern punk.

Joey Valence & Brae put their own stamp on the track by injecting it with dance-music sensibilities and the rapid, rhythmic cadences reminiscent of early Beastie Boys—a style that has become synonymous with their own discography.

Following the release of HYPERYOUTH last year—a project featuring collaborations with artists like JPEGMAFIA, Rebecca Black, and TiaCorine, and produced entirely by Valence in his Pennsylvania home studio—the duo is currently wrapping up the Australian leg of their world tour, which featured packed dates across major cities including Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.
