Sophia to Take Hiatus From KATSEYE to Focus on Mental Health, 6 Months After Manon Did the Same

Another member of KATSEYE has temporarily stepped back from group promotions. On Friday, August 7, HYBE released an official statement announcing that Sophia Laforteza will be taking a necessary break from upcoming schedules.
The announcement emphasizes the 23-year-old artist’s health and wellness, explaining that medical professionals recommended a period of extended rest and dedicated care to guarantee a full recovery.
“While Sophia is deeply eager to perform alongside her bandmates, our artists’ long-term health and safety remain our absolute highest priority,” the statement reads. “We will closely monitor her healing process and provide unwavering support. We sincerely thank fans for their understanding and look forward to welcoming Sophia back to KATSEYE.”
Management has not disclosed further details regarding her specific medical condition.
This news resonates deeply with EYEKONS, who have already experienced a lengthy absence from member Manon since February. At that time, HYBE announced Manon would take a hiatus to prioritize her well-being, and fans have yet to receive a definitive timeline regarding the Swiss performer’s return.
Following Friday’s announcement, Sophia connected directly with fans via an Instagram Story. “It genuinely breaks my heart to miss out on so much,” she shared. “Making this choice was difficult, but I am learning that health must come first. If I do not care for my mind and body now, I will not be able to sustain the career I love so dearly.”
Expressing profound gratitude for the unwavering patience and love from her supporters, the New York native promised to dedicate herself entirely to healing and returning stronger than ever.
It is an exceptionally busy period for KATSEYE. In April, the active members announced their upcoming EP, Wild, slated for release on August 14. The project features hit singles like “Pinky Up,” which debuted at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Animal,” which recently climbed to No. 24. Alongside high-profile performances at Coachella and Governors Ball, as well as the rollout of their Wild Hearts film, the group—featuring Lara Raj, Daniela Avanzini, Yoonchae Jeung, and Megan Skiendiel—is preparing to launch a massive global tour in early September.
Notably, Sophia has consistently advocated for Manon throughout her ongoing hiatus. Reflecting on Manon’s situation in a June interview with Allure, Sophia remarked, “Because this is entirely about her well-being, it is not our place—or anyone else’s—to rush her. We want to give her all the time and space she requires without making assumptions or rushing a timeline… She truly deserves that grace, and the door is always open.”
